The history of the Dubai Desert Classic goes back to 1986 when His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, gave his approval for the innovative concept of developing a grass golf course in the desert. Just two years later, the Emirates Golf Club was opened and shortly afterwards the idea of establishing a world-class golf tournament was conceived. Soon, the first

Dubai Desert Classic was hosted in 1989 as part of the PGA European Tour. A yearly golfing tournament, Dubai Desert Classic has been attracting many of the world's leading golfers and thousands of avid spectators, year after year. In addition to playing an important role in the international sporting arena, it is universally recognised as one of the finest golf events in the Middle East.
